Trading Standards launch price check monitor

The Trading Standards Service has launched a monitoring exercise on licensed premises throughout the Greater Belfast and North Down area to ensure that prices of food and drink are being displayed.

The monitoring exercise will also check the accuracy of measures, and test spirits for authenticity.

Licensees are obliged by law to ensure that there is a clear display of prices for all food and drink sold on their premises.

Trading Standards Enforcement Officer, Philip Donnelly, said: “We want to ensure that licensees are abiding by all the regulations on price display. These displays allow customers to clearly assess if they are getting value for money, and to make comparisons between licensed establishments.

"We hope the exercise will ensure a satisfactory experience for all customers, particularly during the upcoming busy holiday season.”

The monitoring exercise consists of TSS Officers calling unannounced to licensed premises throughout Greater Belfast and North Down, to make the checks. The exercise will be rolled out across Northern Ireland during the course of the year.

Anyone concerned about trading services within licensed premises should contact Consumerline on 0845 600 6262.
