Armagh man injured in 'barbaric' attack
Police are treating a savage assault on a man in Co Armagh as attempted murder.
The 45-year-old victim had just dropped his children off at Annaghmore Primary School in the Kiltybane area of Cullyhanna on Thursday morning when he was abducted and bundled into a passing car.
He was found a short time later lying beside a burnt out car on the Sheetrim Road, approximately three miles away. The man, who is said to be in a critical condition in hospital, had been severely beaten with nail studded clubs. He had multiple injuries to his face and body - both his legs and arms were broken during the assault.
Detectives, who have described the assault as “barbaric”, have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 028 3065 5000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

More Arrests Over Quinn Killing
Three more men have been arrested in connection with the murder of south Armagh man Paul Quinn. The men from the Forkhill and Crossmaglen areas were arrested on Thursday morning. A number of items have also been removed for examination in what police said this afternoon is the second phase of a "targeted operation" in south Armagh.

Man Released After Car Set On Fire In Co Armagh
A man arrested after a car was set alight in Co Armagh has been released. The incident happened in the Drumgor Heights area in Craigavon at around 9pm on Wednesday. The suspect, aged 35, was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including arson, threats to kill, common assault and assault on police.

RUC Murderer Sentenced To 20 Years
A man who was convicted of the murder of a 25-year-old RUC constable in 1981 has been sentenced to at least 20 years in prison. However, he will only serve two years under the Good Friday Agreement. John Proctor was murdered by the IRA in the car park of the Mid-Ulster Hospital on 14 September 1981, having just visited his wife and unborn child.

Two Arrested Over Public Disorder In Lurgan
Two people have been arrested in connection with public disorder in Lurgan, Co Armagh, last month. A 30-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of affray and obstruction, and a 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray and obstruction. Both men are being questioned at Lurgan police station.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a report of an assault at licenced premises at the Rathfriland Road area of Dromara. Detective Inspector Bell said: "Shortly before 10:10pm on Friday 15th December, it was reported that an altercation occurred at a bar in the area following three men refused entry to the premises.
