'Community Cooperation' Urged Amid Assaults In North Coast
Alliance Councillors across the North Coast have called for "community cooperation" following a slew of assaults across the North Coast.
It was reported that two men were observed assaulting a man in a licensed premises in the Eglinton Street area of Portrush on Wednesday3 January, shortly before 11 pm.
Police then received a further call about the assault of a woman by the same two men in another licenced premises in the Coleraine area.
The woman received a punch to the head and suffered a leg injury.
Alliance Causeway representative Alderman Richard Stewart has urged the community to come forward with any information related to the incident.
Alderman Stewart said: "The quick response from the Police officers, led to both men involved in these incidents being located and arrested for a number of offences, including common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Both men remain in custody at this time.
"Our community should be a safe and welcoming place for everyone. Acts of violence and disruption will not be tolerated, and it is crucial that we stand together to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors."
Causeway Alliance Cllr Peter McCully also acknowledges the dedicated efforts of the local PSNI in investigating the matter and calls upon the community to assist in their endeavours, stating: "I have full confidence in the police force, and I believe that with the cooperation of our community, those responsible for this assault will be brought to justice."
Alderman Yvonne Boyle, Councillor in Coleraine has encouraged anyone with information about the incident to contact police on 101, quoting reference 1911 03/01/24, online at www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/ or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11. All information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
Alderman Stewart is committed to fostering a sense of security and unity within the North Coast community and Alderman Stewart has said he will continue working closely with the PSNI to address concerns and ensure the safety of all residents and visitors to the area.

Two Pipe Bombs Found In Co Antrim
Two pipe bombs have been found following two explosions in Ahoghill, Co Antrim. The explosive devices went off at two separate addresses in the Brookfield Gardens area at around 2am on Thursday. There were no reports of any injuries, however the front of one of the properties was damaged.

A £4m contract to deliver the first phase of the Connswater Community Greenway project has been awarded to Maghera-based BSG Civil Engineering Ltd. The Connswater Community Greenway project encompasses an area from Belfast Lough to the Castlereagh Hills. The total project is worth £35m, with the second £23m phase due to begin next Spring.
