Investigation Launches Into Suspected Arson In L'Derry

L'Derry PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following the report of a fire on Buncrana Road in the city during the early hours of today, Thursday 4 January. 

Police received a report just before 2.30am that a house under construction had been set alight causing significant damage. Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) attended the scene and extinguished the blaze. NIFRS believe the fire was deliberate and so the incident is being treated as arson.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and saw any suspicious activity, or who has information which may assist the investigation. The number to call is 101, quoting 109 of 04/01/24 or report online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/ or anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Renewed Appeal On 22nd Anniversary Of Stephen Warnock Murder
Detectives from Legacy Investigation Branch, reviewing the murder of 35-year-old Stephen Warnock, in Newtownards in 2002, are appealing for information on the 22nd anniversary of his murder. Stephen died after being shot a number of times in his car while driving on the Circular Road in Newtownards at approximately 11.30 am on 13th September 2002.

Man Dies In Road Crash In Co Tyrone
A man has died in a road collision in Co Tyrone. The incident, between a vehicle and a pedestrian, occurred in the Clanabogan Road area of Omaha at around 2.05pm on Friday, 12 July. The road was closed however it has now been re-opened.

NI's Chief Fire Officer Announces His Retirement
The Chief Fire Officer for Northern Ireland, Peter Craig, has announced that he is to retire after over 35 years of distinguished Service. Peter Craig is one of the longest serving officers in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and was appointed as Chief Fire Officer in February 2011, having been the acting Chief from July 2010.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.
