Dead motorcyclist was police officer

One of the motorcyclists who died following an accident in Co Down on Tuesday was a police officer.

The officer, who was named as Gerard Martin McCallion, 23, died when his motorbike collided with another motorcycle on the Ballymoney Road in the Craigantlet Hills at around 10.15pm.

Mr McCallion, whose address was given as Lurgan police station, died in hospital from his injuries.

The second victim, 30-year-old Gary William Ferran from east Belfast, died at the scene of the crash.

North Down MP Lady Hermon said it was "two more tragic deaths in North Down - too many".

Four Men Arrested Over Murder Of Lorraine McCausland
Four people have been arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a woman in north Belfast in 1987. Lorraine McCausland was found dead beside a stream in the Forthriver area on 08 March. Two men, aged 54 and 65, were arrested in Belfast and two men, aged 53 and 59, were arrested in Antrim.

Two Officers Disciplined For Failing To Fully Investigate Attack On Woman
Two police officers have been disciplined for failing to properly investigate an attack on a woman in L'Derry in 2014, following an investigation by the Police Ombudsman. The victim reported that a man had punched her in the face in an apparently unprovoked attack after she left a bar in the early hours of the morning.
