Families return home following gas leak

Around 50 families have returned home after a gas leak in the Springfield Road area of west Belfast was repaired on Tuesday.

Families in and around the area had been forced to leave their homes as fire crews investigated the leak close to New Barnsley police station.

Phoenix Natural Gas said one of its supply lines had been damaged by a third party, believed to have been a construction company carrying out building work.

Jets of water were sprayed to prevent a build-up of gas in the vicinity.

Ambulance crews were also sent to the area as engineers worked at the scene of the incident to repair the gas main.
