Maghera Security Alert Declared 'Elaborate Hoax'

A security alert in Maghera has been declared an "elaborate hoax".

The alert began shortly after 4:35pm on Sunday, 12 November, when it was reported to police that a suspicious object had been found at residential premises in the Sunnyside Drive area.

A number of homes in the area were evacuated, as police conducted a public safety operation. The object was examined at the scene before being declared a hoax and removed for further forensic examination.

Inspector Long said: "Our enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to the incident to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1103 12/11/23. Police have said a security alert in Maghera, Co L'Derry, has ended. They have declared the alert a hoax. A suspicious object was discovered in the Sunnyside Drive area of the town on Friday. Police and army bomb experts attended the scene. The object was later declared a hoax.

A security alert in Newcastle, Co Down, has been declared a hoax. On Wednesday, a suspicious object was discovered close to an Orange Hall in the Shimna Road area of the town. Police and Army bomb experts were called to the scene to investigate while nearby roads were closed overnight.

East Belfast Security Alert 'Nothing Untoward'
A security alert that closed a busy road in east Belfast on Thursday evening has been declared as "nothing untoward". Residents on the Belmont Road were evacuated from their homes after a suspicious object was discovered under a vehicle at Strathearn School. It's understood to have been found under a teacher's car.
