SF Calls For 'Proper Funding' For Special Education Children

Sinn Féin has called on the UK government to provide "proper funding" to support children with special education needs.

MLA Pat Sheehan also called for the urgent restoration of the Assembly to ensure the delivery of a new special educational needs school in Belfast.

The party's education spokesperson said: "It's welcome that the Department of Education has approved a plan to build a new special school in Belfast alongside the expansion of the Harberton school.

"Given the demand for places in these schools; it's positive that this investment will also create 450 more school places to support children with special educational needs.

"We need the Assembly restored now to ensure this is delivered and the funding is in place to get construction started on this hugely important project.

"The British government should provide proper funding for education and work to restore the Executive so parties can work together to support children with special educational needs.”
