Public Invited To Shape SLNCR Greenway
A public event for the proposed Sligo Leitrim Northern Counties Railway (SLNCR) Greenway will take place on the 18 October 2023 to hear from the communities and businesses along the line.
The event will take place in Belcoo Community Centre between 10.00am and 12.00pm. Urban Foresight are hosting the event on behalf of the SLNCR Partners.
The SLNCR Sligo to Enniskillen Greenway is being developed by local councils. Leitrim County Council has partnered with Sligo County Council, Cavan County Council and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.
The Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the Department for Infrastructure is supporting the project.
The project will provide a greenway from Sligo town to Enniskillen passing through Collooney, Ballintogher, Domahair, Manorhamilton, Glenfarne, Blacklion, Belcoo and Letterbreen.
It is named after the Sligo Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway which operated as a 75 kilometre railway line linking Enniskillen to Collooney where it connected with the Sligo-Dublin line. There are many surviving signs of the railway line including stations, road crossings, cottages, earthworks and bridges.
The idea for the greenway has been developed through local communities and the opportunity which the historic SLNCR that linked Enniskillen to Collooney presents.
