Police renew appeal as murder scene school reopens

As detectives renew an appeal for information following the murder of Kevin McAlorum on Thursday, Oakwood Integrated School in Dunmurray outside which he was shot has reopened its doors today.

Mr McAlorum, 31, was shot and fatally injured as he drove his blue Audi car from the primary school at The Cutts, Dunmurry, shortly before 9am.

The shooting occurred as parents were dropping off children. A counselling service has been provided for those at the school who have been affected by the incident.

Mr McAlorum died on June 3 after his car was forced to a stop by a white transit van. Two men got out of the van and opened fire.

Police believe the gunmen made off from the scene in a blue Nissan Almera found a short time later on fire at the rear of Becketts Bar on the Stewartstown Road, Belfast.

In particular, police would like to speak to anyone who was in the area of Oakwood Integrated Primary School at The Cutts, between 8.15am and 9.15am on Thursday morning of June 3. They also wish to speak to anyone who was in the area of Becketts Bar on the Stewartstown Road between 8.15am and 9.15am on the same morning.

A police spokesperson said that detectives were also anxious to track the recent movements of the vehicles involved in the murder. Anyone who may have seen a white transit van, registration 'SCZ 4532' or 'FNZ 2961'; a blue Nissan Primera, registration 'ICZ 5886' or 'FCZ 2884'; or a blue Audi, registration 'BCZ 7989' over recent weeks is asked to contact detectives on 028 9090 1132 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Mr McAlorum's nine-year-old sister was killed in an INLA gun attack on the family's home in north Belfast in 1996.

He subsequently served three years of a 16-year sentence for possession of a gun used to murder an INLA member. He was released under the auspices of the Good Friday Agreement.
