NI Water Announces Major Sewerage Works In Bangor
NI Water has announced a 10-week programme of improvement works on the sewerage system in Bangor, Co Down.
The work – which is due to get underway on Monday 24th July by NI Water's appointed contractor GEDA Construction – will involve repairs to existing manholes followed by the relining of sewers from the same manholes by trenchless means (underground technology) to minimise disruption.
These essential repairs form part of an overall programme of work by NI Water to strengthen the existing sewerage network in Bangor to protect against blockages and reduce the risk of out-of-sewer flooding.
The work will be completed in two phases as follows:
• The first phase of work will involve the repair of manholes on Castle Street (at Castle Park Road junction), in Ward Park and on Springfield Avenue (at Hamilton Road junction). This work is planned to get underway during the week commencing 24th July 2023 and will last approximately 6 weeks.
• The second phase of work will see the improvement of sewers by trenchless lining methods from the repaired manholes. This work is planned to get underway during the week commencing 4th September 2023 and will last approximately 4 weeks.
For both phases of work, localised traffic and pedestrian management will be required around work areas to protect the public and ensure the repairs are carried out as safely as possible. Pedestrian access to and within Ward Park will be maintained at all times during the work. Liaison has taken place with the relevant authorities in relation to these works and signage will be in place to direct pedestrians around work areas. Any surfaces impacted by the work will be reinstated following completion of the programme of repairs.
