Portavogie Harbour To Receive £2.6m Grant

Portavogie Harbour is set to benefit from a £2.6 million Government Grant.

The money has been given to the Northern Ireland Fishery Harbour Authority to replace and enhance the existing boat cradle and winch.

The cradle and winch are used to pull fishing vessels out of the water so they can undergo maintenance.

The new facilities will be designed to take a wider range of vessels both larger and smaller. The current cradle and winch system is only operating at 30% capacity due to the limited range of boats it can support.

The funding will also be used to support the installation of new PV panels. The new panels are expected to create a C02 emission saving of 3.02 tonnes per annum.

The UK Seafood Infrastructure Fund aims to strengthen the seafood supply chain, bring social and economic benefits, and reduce the seafood industry's impact on the environment. Round 2 of the scheme has awarded £40.1m to 21 projects across the UK.
