Construction Begins On £5.2m Newry Primary School
The sod has been cut at the site of a new £5.2m primary school in Newry, County Down. Education Minister, John O'Dowd was present at the ceremony today to launch the construction of St Clare's Abbey Primary School. The Department of Education has committed £5.2m to the project, which will provide a new 15-classroom school with modern facilities.

NIFRS Releases Christmas Safety Message
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) has released an appeal to remind the public to be aware of fire safety over the Christmas period. NIFRS said that over the Christmas period last year (20 December 2012 – 6 January 2013), fire crews responded to 1,096 emergency incidents across Northern Ireland.

Madeleine vigil held in Downpatrick
A vigil has taken place in Downpatrick to show support for missing child Madeleine McCann. Around 100 people joined the vigil held at Millennium Square at 7pm on Wednesday to pray for the four-year-old girl who has been missing for over two weeks while on a family holiday in Portugal.
