Appeal For Information On Burglary Incidents In Newtownabbey
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following a burglary and attempted burglaries in the Newtownabbey area.
Police received three reports of incidents between the hours of 4 and 7 am on Saturday, 08 July.
It was first reported to police a man was acting suspiciously at the side of a house in the Ballyhenry Avenue area and located a short time later in the garage.
When confronted by the homeowner he made off. Nothing was taken and the man is described as of slim build and approximately 5" 9'.
He was wearing a baseball cap, green bomber jacket, blue jeans and white trainers.
Police then received a report that a number of power tools, worth hundreds of pounds, had been stolen from a shed at a house in the Dorchester Avenue area.
A third report was received of an attempted burglary in the Ballyhenry Gardens area.
Two men were seen acting suspiciously in the area. Some items had been moved from a shed. But nothing was taken.
One of the men matched a similar description as the man acting suspiciously at a property in the Ballyhenry Avenue area.
The other man was also of slim build and was wearing a black beanie hat, a dark blue and light blue raincoat and jeans.
Detective Sergeant Boyd said: "We are linking these reports and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in these areas or who may have information that could help with our enquiries, to get in touch with police on 101, quoting reference number 456 of 08/07/23."

Murder inquiry launched after Markets body find
A murder inquiry has been launched after the body of a man was discovered in a flat in the Markets area of Belfast. Neighbours found the body in an upstairs flat in Friendly Place at 7.45am on Monday. Police believe the 38-year-old man had been beaten. Two men have been arrested by detectives and are helping them with their inquiries.

Two Arrested After 'Suspicious Activity'
Two men have been arrested by police following reports of suspicious activity in the North Circular Road area of Belfast. Police attended the scene and arrested two males on suspicion of burglary and possession of class A and B drugs. No further information is available.

A security alert in Ballynahinch, County Down, has been declared a hoax. Police and Army bomb experts were called to the Riverview Heights area following reports of a suspicious object at around 8pm on Thursday 24 January. A number of homes were evacuated while the object was examined.

Large Gorse Fire Ongoing In Newcastle
Firefighters are tackling an ongoing large gorse fire in Newcastle. According to reports, eight fire engines and almost 50 firefighters are at the scene in the Drinahilly Mountain area near Tollymore Forest Park. It is understood that some 10 acres of gorse are affected by the fire. Specialist wildfire officers are also at the scene.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested after a pipe bomb was found in north Belfast. The PSNI received reports that an object had been thrown in the North Queen Street area on Sunday night, 18 February. Police declared the object as a "viable pipe bomb-type device". It has been removed for further examination. The roads have been re-opened.
