Recovered Human Remains Confirmed As Those Of Chloe Mitchell
The PSNI have confirmed that human remains found in Ballymena on Sunday, 11 June, have been officially confirmed as those Chloe Mitchell.
A missing persons appeal was launched for Ms Mitchell on 08 June. The 21-year-old had not been seen since the early hours of Saturday 03 June, when police found CCTV footage of her walking in Ballymena Town Centre.
At the time of the appeal, a 26-year-old man was arrested and was "helping police with their enquiries".
On Sunday, 11 June, the PSNI announced that they had launched a murder investigation, following the discovery of human remains in the town.
A second man, aged 34, was arrested in connection with the investigation.
A few days later, the PSNI had to issue an appeal for people to refrain from posting and sharing "graphic videos and tests" on social media platforms.
At the time, Detective Chief Inspector Millar said: "I am aware of graphic videos and texts circulating on social media platforms and would appeal to people not to share or comment on these, as not only do they contain many inaccuracies, they are also causing significant distress to Chloe's family and friends.
"I am also aware of commentary in the media speculating about the recovery of human remains at specific locations. We would ask people not to comment and share such matters as they are likely to be incorrect, inaccurate and very hurtful to Chloe's family."
In the latest update on the case, Detective Chief Inspector Richard Millar said this morning, Tuesday 27 June: "The identification process on human remains found in Ballymena on Sunday 11th June has now concluded and have been confirmed as those of Chloe Mitchell."
The PSNI continue to appeal for anyone with information to call detectives on 101 and quote reference number 2262 of 05/06/23
