Party Leaders Come Out In Support Of NI Prison Service
The leaders of the DUP, Alliance Party, UUP and SDLP have issued a joint statement in support of those working in the NI Prison Service and the PSNI.
The statement comes after video footage appeared online showing people removing Prison Service recruitment posters and posting anti-PSNI posters.
The joint statement said: "We offer our full support to all those working within these services, and to the recruitment process underway within the Prison Service.
"There can be no place for those who engage in threats or intimidation towards those who serve the community as Prison Officers or within the PSNI. Those engaging in such tactics do not speak for the people who we represent as political leaders.
"We encourage everyone in our society to consider the PSNI and the NI Prison Service as valuable career opportunities."
The statement was signed by Sir Jeffrey Donaldson MP, Naomi Long MLA, Doug Beattie MLA, and Colum Eastwood MP - Leader of the Social Democratic & Labour Party.
Separately, Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly has said the destruction of posters is wrong.
The party's policing spokesperson said: "The destruction of prison service posters in Derry or political posters on bonfires, is absolutely wrong.
"Everyone should be able to carry out their work free from intimidation and harassment."

53-Year-Old Dies In Custody At Maghaberry Prison
A 53-year-old has reportedly died in custody at Maghaberry Prison, the Northern Ireland Prison Service has announced. The Department of Justice has reported that the prisoner died on Saturday 28 August, that his next of kin have been informed and that the death was not covid related.

A 22-year-old man has died while in custody at Maghaberry Prison, the Northern Ireland Prison Service has reported. The Department of Justice has confirmed that the man died in custody on the morning of Thursday, 30 August. The man's next of kin have been informed. The PSNI, Coroner and Prisoner Ombudsman have been informed about the death.

Female Prison Officer Injured After Being Attacked At Magahberry Jail
A female prison officer has been injured after being attacked by a male inmate at Maghaberry Prison just outside Lisburn. A sharp weapon is believed to have been used. The officer was taken to hospital to be treated. A Prison Service spokesperson said: "A prison officer has suffered a serious injury following an assault by a prisoner in Maghaberry.

Staff at Maghaberry Prison in Lisburn have been criticised after they failed to intervene while a prisoner blinded himself, according to a Prison Ombudsman report. Sean Lynch, 23, was being detained at the prison in June 2014 and inflicted "extreme and shocking" injuries through self-harm over a three day period.
