NIE begin Ards Peninsula refurbishment work
Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) has started work on a £250,000 refurbishment programme to improve the existing electricity network in the Greyabbey area of the Ards Peninsula.
Refurbishment work is to be carried out on over 50 km of 11,000 volt high voltage overhead network which aims to reinforce electricity supply for customers in the area.
Valerie Curran, NIE Customer Relations Manager for the area, says the project is part of an ongoing improvement programme for the infrastructure network in the Ards Peninsula.
“NIE remains committed to investing in its network to ensure the best possible customer service and to ensure optimum security of supply for our customers in Greyabbey and surrounding areas," she said.
“These essential improvements will enable this growing area to cope with increasing demand for electricity. I know that our customers want to see more of this type of work and I would like to thank the residents for their patience while the work is taking place."
The area has been affected by storms in recent years as well as other incidents that have caused damage to the electricity network.
To combat this investment in the electricity infrastructure has been brought forward with additional allocated expenditure.
The programme of work is scheduled to run from mid-June until the end of September 2004.
