Three Men Arrested In Connection With Armed Hijacking

Three men have been arrested in connection with an armed hijacking and subsequent collision in the Newtownards area on Thursday, 18 May.

At around 8.30pm last night, police received a report that a vehicle had been hijacked in the East Street area of Newtownards.

A woman had been parked in the area when two men, at least one of them was armed with a knife, demanded the driver get out of the vehicle.

They drove off from the area and around ten minutes later police received a report of a single vehicle collision in the Crawfordsburn Road area and the occupants of the vehicle had fled the scene.

Detective Sergeant Bell said: "Follow up enquiries led police to a property in the Greengraves area, where three men were arrested.

"Two men, aged 22 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including hijacking, robbery and possession of an offensive weapon. A third male in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of assisting offenders. They all remain in custody at this stage.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to the incidents, or who may have CCTV or Dashcam footage to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 2080 of 18/05/23.

Six Arrested In Dissident Investigation
Six people have been arrested by detectives investigating dissident republican activity. The arrests were made on Tuesday in the Dunmurry and west Belfast area following a number of searches. Police said five men, aged between 31 and 58, and a 32-year-old woman had been arrested.

Two Men Arrested Over Murder Of Brian McIlhagga Released
Two men arrested over the murder of Brian McIlhagga have been released. Mr McIlhagga, 42, was shot and beaten by a gang after he was dragged from a house in the Riverview Park area in Ballymoney in January 2015. A woman who was also in the house at the time was also attacked. Four children were also in the property.

Two Men Arrested Over Bomb Attack On Police Released
Two men arrested in connection with a bomb attack on police in Strabane, Co Tyrone, have been released. A device exploded in the Townsend street area on Tuesday, 21 March, and the officers were "extremely lucky to escape injury", according to the PSNI. The men, aged 20 and 31, were released unconditionally. The investigation is ongoing.

Four Released After Woman Injured In Co Tyrone
Four people have been released on bail pending further enquiries after a woman was injured in a house in Co Tyrone. Three men, aged 24, 25 and 34, and a woman, aged 29, were arrested following an incident in the Mourne Crescent area on Monday, 14 November. The injured woman is being treated in hospital.

Three Arrested In Connection With Ballymena Murder
Police are treating the death of a 69-year-old man from Ballymena as murder. The victim was discovered in the Drumtara area on Tuesday afternoon. Two men, aged 41 and 49, and a woman, 47, have been arrested and are in police custody. Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
