Man Arrested In Connection With Fraud Offences
A 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences of fraud by false representation and fraud by abuse of position.
Detectives in Mid Ulster CID made the arrest following an investigation into three reports of an individual who purported to be a serving priest fraudulently obtaining money from vulnerable older people living in rural communities.
Detective Inspector Ryan said: "The suspect will now be questioned in connection with these offences. I would encourage anyone else who feels they have had a similar experience or is concerned that they have given money to an individual they believed to be a priest, to get in touch with us so we can examine your report and take all the necessary steps to investigate. Please call us on 101.
"You can also submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/."

Woman Arrested On Suspicion Of Fraud And Money Offences Released
A 70-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of fraud and money offences has been released on bail pending further enquiries. The woman was arrested in west Belfast following and incident in Coleraine after the PSNI were alerted of a suspicious withdrawal from a 74-year-old man's account.

Man Sentenced For Murder Of 44-Year-Old In Belfast
A man has been sentenced for the murder of 44-year-old Maris Ludborzs in Belfast last year. Sarunas Nauburaitis, 35, was sentenced to 18 years' imprisonment after having pleaded guilty to murder and connected fraud offences. Police discovered the body of Maris in the kitchen of Nauburaitis's home address in Belfast on Saturday 23 May 2020.

A total of £23.1 million has been lost to financial fraud in Northern Ireland in the last 13 months, according to the latest figures from Action Fraud. In the period before December 2022 and January 15 2024, the PSNI received 5,412 reports of fraud.
