Major road works scheme completed in Co Fermanagh
A new £500,000 road works scheme has been completed in Co Fermanagh today.
The A4 Ballygawley to Enniskillen Road, near Fivemiletown, incorporates a climbing lane towards the town and a right turning lane at the main Kiltermon junction.
The addition of the climbing lane will provide an opportunity for motorists to safely overtake slower moving vehicles on this busy part of the road.
Commenting on the completion of the work, Divisional Roads Manager, Pat Doherty said: "The £500k improvements to this stretch of road will provide more predictable journey times, relieve traffic congestion and ease driver frustration. The new road layout will result in improved road safety measures that will benefit everyone using this busy route."
Funding for this scheme, which is one of a number of carriageway widening schemes on the Trunk Road Network, has been secured through the Strategic Road Improvement allocation.
Today's completion followed yesterday's meeting between NIO Minister, John Spellar and local councillors over traffic congestion concerns in the area.
At the informal meeting, the Minister listened to Members’ calls for the provision of Cherrymount Link Road and an Enniskillen southern bypass.
Mr Pearson said he would take into account the specific needs of Enniskillen, raised by councillors, before publishing the Regional Strategic Transport Network – Transport Plan later this year.
