Two Men Charged In Connection With Sectarian Hate Crime In Lurgan

Two men have been charged in connection with a sectarian hate crime in Lurgan on Sunday 30th April.

The men, aged 34 and 37, were arrested in connection with an incident at a property on Ashleigh Crescent, in the town. Following the PSNI investigation, the men have been charged with attempted criminal damage and attempted theft. They are expected to appear before Craigavon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 31st May.

Chief Inspector Brendan Green, of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Policing District, said: "The charges follow a report of attempted criminal damage and attempted theft at a house in the Ashleigh Crescent area, which was treated as a sectarian hate crime.

"Police take reports of this nature extremely seriously, everyone has the right to feel safe in their home and we will continue to make every effort to ensure that this happens.

"We have increased patrols in this area to reassure the community that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.

"I encourage anyone who has any concerns in the Lurgan area, or the wider Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon borough to report them to police.

Officer injured in hammer assault
A police officer has been injured after being struck with a hammer in Co Armagh at the weekend. The incident occurred after officers were called to the Thomas Street area of Portadown on Sunday after a Portuguese man reported damage to his car. When officers arrived they saw a man being assaulted in a separate incident nearby.

The incident happened at premises on the Shankill Road shortly after 11pm on Tuesday, 07 March. A number of masked men armed with a hammer threatened staff and demanded them to open the till.

Two Men Attacked With Baseball Bats In Co Antrim
Two 18-year-old men have been attacked with baseball bats in Whitehead, Co Antrim. The victims were closing premises in the Balmoral Avenue area at around 8.30pm on Tuesday, 04 October when three men assaulted them. Both men were treated in hospital for their injuries. One has been discharged, and the other remains in hospital.

Seven Men Charged Over Attempted Murder Of DCI Caldwell
Seven men have been charged in connection with the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell. Detectives from the Major Investigation Team have charged all seven men – two aged 28 and five aged 33, 38, 45, 47 and 72 – with attempted murder.

Men Charged With Attempted Murder Following North Belfast Stabbing
Two men, aged 28 and 30, are due to appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court today (20 April) charged with attempted murder in connection with a stabbing incident in north Belfast. On Monday 18 April a man suffered "life-changing injuries" in a knife attack following an altercation on Clifton Drive.
