Unionists And Nationalists Must Agree A Way Forward – Donaldson

Unionists and Nationalists agreeing a way forward is key to restoring the NI Assembly, DUP leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has said.

Following a meeting in Belfast with former US President Bill Clinton, Sir Jeffrey said: "I had a useful exchange with President Bill Clinton in Belfast earlier where I underscored our commitment to restoring the NI Assembly on a basis that unionists as well as nationalists can support.

"Northern Ireland is a divided society. We must get the foundations right. Quick fixes without solid foundations will do a disservice to those trying to make the institutions work.

"Progress is only made in Northern Ireland on the basis of consensus. Unionists and Nationalists agreeing a way forward.

"The core of the Belfast Agreement was about creating and sustaining that cross community consensus."
