UUP – Biden Visit 'Indication Of The Scale Of Opportunity'
UUP Leader Doug Beattie has said that the US President's visit to Belfast was "an indication of the scale of opportunity that stands to be grasped for our people".
Speaking after meeting Joe Biden on Wednesday, Mr Beattie said: "It was a pleasure to welcome the President of the United States of America to Northern Ireland today. This was an opportunity to engage directly with the President and I was glad I got the opportunity to do so. My mantra is always that of more engagement, not less.
"The President's visit to Belfast is an indication of the scale of opportunity that stands to be grasped for our people. I believe this opportunity must be grasped by a restored Assembly and Executive.
"Whilst today there was rightly reflection on the importance of the Belfast Agreement in securing the peace we have enjoyed for 25 years now, there was also a welcome focus on prosperity. The next 25 years must be about delivering opportunities and prosperity for all our people. I believe the USA can play an important role in helping to deliver this and I will work with the President's Administration to make this a reality."

Irish President Turns Down Invite To Mark NI Centenary
The DUP has asked the Irish President Michael D Higgins if he is "officially snubbing" Northern Ireland's centenary. Strangford MLA Peter Weir has written to the Irish President asking if his office is joining the SDLP and SF in boycotting events which mark NI's centenary.

Irish President Pulls Out Of Belfast Centenary Dinner
Irish President Michael D Higgins has pulled out of attending a centenary dinner at the City Hall In Belfast on 08 April. An agreement was made that the signing of the Ulster Covenant, the Easter Rising and the Battle of the Somme would all be commemorated with dinners.

The DUP leader Ian Paisley and Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams have met with Prime Minister Tony Blair and Chancellor Gordon Brown in London today. The separate meetings follow the Northern Ireland Assembly elections last week that saw the DUP and Sinn Fein romp home as the two largest parties in the suspended NI Assembly.
