SF Condemns 'Weekend Of Chaos' In East Belfast And Newtownards
Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly has condemned a "weekend of chaos" in East Belfast and Newtownards, calling on "drug dealing loyalist gangs to pack up and go and end their criminal activity".
The party's policing spokesperson said: "Reports of more threats, intimidation and attacks by loyalist gangs over the weekend are absolutely despicable and outrageous.
"The only motive these criminal gangs have is continuing to drive misery and fear into our communities through racketeering, drug dealing, extortion, intimidation, threats and murder.
"Rather than 'expelling' drug dealers from their gangs and issuing threats, the real question is why do they continue to exist 25 years after the Good Friday Agreement?
"These gangs have no place in our communities. They should pack up and go.
"There is an onus on political leaders to call out this intimidation and for the Police to act to hold those responsible accountable and end the continued existence of armed criminal gangs in our society."

Man Shot In Both Legs In North Belfast
A man has been shot in both legs in north Belfast. The shooting occurred in the Carlisle Parade area at approximately 8pm on Monday. The victim, in his 20s, is being treated in hospital, however his injuries are not believed to be life threatening. A man in his 40s has been arrested in connection with the attack and has been detained by the police.

Police To Target Prostitution Clients
As part of a crack-down on trafficking police are visiting a number of men who are believed to have paid for sex with trafficked women. In total it is understood 15 men will be targeted in a bid to deter them from using such services.

Criminal assets of £12m targeted in NI
Around £12 million in criminal assets have been targeted and 28 criminal gangs have been disrupted in Northern Ireland last year by agencies working to thwart organised crime. Security Minister and Chair of the Organised Crime Task Force, Shaun Woodward, made the announcement at the launch of launch of PWC Global Economic Crime Survey in Belfast.
