Wrightbus Secures £25m Order With First Bus

Wrightbus has secured a £25.3 million contract from UK transport company First Bus.

The Ballymena-based firm will supply 117 zero-emission buses, that First Bus will deploy across Yorkshire, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Hampshire.

All of them will be built at Wrightbus's factory in Ballymena. The £25.3m government investment is part of its roll-out of zero-emission buses.

Welcoming the news, North Antrim MP Ian Paisley said: "I am delighted that after months of continuous hard work and lobbying, a major order has been announced for Wrightbus from the North of England.

"This announcement is good news for the Ballymena economy. Wrightbus is employs nearly 1,000 more people than at the end of 201. One of the biggest reasons for this is that it makes the best buses on the market. I'm proud that councils in England are choosing Ballymena-made buses to improve air quality in their towns and cities and I would like to congratulate all members of the Wrightbus team on another major order.

"Once again, the best workforce making the best product wins results. I wish to congratulate the company and its workers."
