ANB Council Bury Centenary Time Capsules
History has been captured in a number of Centenary Time Capsules which were buried in Randalstown and Ballyclare. This initiative is part of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council's programme of events to mark the Northern Ireland Centenary.
Over the past 18 months, items have been accumulated from schools, community groups, sports clubs, and individuals across the Borough that capture the essence, and tell the story, of each place and its people in 2021 and take a little look back over the first 100 years of Northern Ireland.
The first capsule was buried in Randalstown on the viaduct path on Wednesday 8 February by Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman Stephen Ross. This was followed by Ballyclare on 9 February where a large group of people from the town joined the Mayor and local Councillors to see the capsule interred in Centenary Way.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman Stephen Ross said: "It is inspiring to see so many members of the different communities join together to mark the Centenary in such a tangible and lasting way for future generations to enjoy. I look forward to joining in the celebrations at the remaining Time Capsule burials later this month."
