18-Year-Old Stabbed In Day Time Attack At Botanic Gardens

An 18-year-old man is being treated in hospital after being stabbed a number of times in an incident at Botanic Gardens in Belfast.

According to reports, the teenager was attacked at around 4pm on Monday 30 January. He is said to have suffered stab wounds to his thighs and groin.

The attacker is described as approximately 5'8" tall and aged in his early 20s.

Police have appealed for anyone who was in the area and witnessed the attack or may have captured mobile phone footage to contact them.

Sinn Féin councillor John Gormley has appealed to the public to assist the police investigation: "A young man was violently attacked in Botanic Gardens today. He was stabbed a number of times during the attack and had to be taken to hospital in the city.

"This vicious attack in a public park right in the heart of south Belfast is totally unacceptable and has shocked the local community.

"I urge anyone with any information which might assist the police in bringing the perpetrator to justice to contact the police immediately."

Man Shot In Co L'Derry
A man has been shot in the ankle in Co L'Derry. The paramilitary-style attack happened near the Creggan shops at around 7.45pm on Thursday, 07 December. The 41-year-old man has been taken to hospital to be treated, however his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Police described the shooting as "brutal and horrific".

Police are treating a fire at a recreation centre in County Down as malicious. The incident happened at a football club in the Langley Road area of Ballynahinch just before 3am this morning.

Spanish police have arrested a man in connection with the bombing of an army barracks in Lisburn eight years ago. Michael Gerard Rogan, 44, from Easton Avenue in north Belfast, was arrested in the holiday resort of Playa de las Americas in Tenerife on Monday.

Man left in critical condition following attack
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was left in a critical condition in hospital early this morning. The man was attacked in the Old Mountfield Road area of Omagh at around 3am. A number of people were believed to have been in the area at the time, however nothing else is known about the incident.
