All-Ireland Sustainability Summit Announced For Belfast

The All-Ireland Sustainability Summit, which aims to help businesses and organisations progress on their sustainability journeys, accessing the support needed to make change, and sharing best practice when it comes to 'going green', will be held at the Europa Hotel in Belfast on Thursday 09 March.

In partnership with Geological Survey of Northern Ireland, the event will see over 200 attendees from a variety of sectors are expected to attend to hear from sustainability experts and peers.

Speaking at the launch of the All-Ireland Sustainability Summit, founder of the event, Danielle McCormick said: "The sustainability and net-zero agenda is firmly on the business radar. We have an opportunity to drive and accelerate positive change, and we want to help individuals and organisations step up and meet the challenge.

"In industry, sustainability refers to doing business without negatively impacting the environment, community, or society as a whole, and it's clear that sustainability can help drive business success, as well as create positive outcomes for the environment both locally and globally.

"I am personally delighted to welcome our headline partner, the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland, and all our key sponsors including Danske, NIE Networks and International Synergies NI, in this year's event."

Dr Marie Cowan, Director of Geological Survey of Northern Ireland, the lead partner for the 2023 All-Ireland Sustainability Summit said: "The Department for the Economy's Geological Survey of Northern Ireland is delighted to be in partnership with the All-Ireland Sustainability Summit. Geological Survey of Northern Ireland has sustainability and net-zero at the core of its work programme, which applies geoscience to support sustainable growth and decent jobs, energy, water and food security, resilient cities and infrastructure, and environmental protection.

"We recognise the challenges that achieving all of this presents and we welcome this opportunity to engage and participate across all sectors and disciplines, to meet these challenges and help play our part in securing a sustainable future for everyone."

Three further sponsors have been announced for this year's Summit – Danske Bank, International Synergies and NIE Networks demonstrating the importance of sustainability to a range of businesses.

Chris Martin, Head of Sustainability at Danske Bank UK said: "Working towards a more sustainable future is a priority for many businesses including Danske. That's why we're delighted to support the Summit which will be a fantastic opportunity to hear from industry experts, share best practice and learn how we can collectively accelerate our sustainability journeys."

Ben Craig, Acting Director of International Synergies continued: "We are delighted to be involved in supporting the All Ireland Sustainability Summit again this year.

"International Synergies is a sustainability consultancy specialised in supporting businesses, regions, and public bodies, to create resource efficiencies by helping them to divert waste resources away from landfill and into the circular economy.

"This benefits companies by reducing their costs and CO2 emissions, whilst stimulating innovation and collaboration across sectors. We believe sustainability is good for business and business is good for sustainability, but this is only possible through creating networks, building relationships, and sharing learning.

"This is what the Summit is all about and we can't wait to see what this year's event holds."

Judy McElroy, Sustainability & Environment Manager at NIE Networks, added: "At NIE Networks we are committed to delivering a sustainable energy system by leading the transition to a low carbon future so we're delighted to be able to sponsor this event.

"In addition to working towards decarbonising the electricity sector we're also working to reduce the carbon footprint of our own operations so that we can effect positive change for our customers, employees and our environment.

"Events like these are so important to share best practice and to learn from each other so that we can help lead the way in creating a positive change for all."

The All-Ireland Sustainability Summit will focus on providing businesses and organisations with the support that they need to continue on their sustainability journeys during the current financial climate. The aim of the event is for attendees to leave the day with tangible actions that they can take forward within their own businesses and organisations, and, as ever, there will be a major focus on networking, exhibiting and opportunities to explore collaborative working throughout the day.
