Man remanded in custody following cannabis seizure

A man has been remanded in custody following the seizure of £1.75 million worth of drugs in Co Antrim.

Michael Beech, 48, from Dunclug Gardens in Ballymena, appeared at the town's Magistrates Court on Thursday after been charged with having cannabis and amphetamines with intent to supply, as well as growing cannabis.

The drugs were recovered following the search of premises in the Glarryford area of Ballymena on Tuesday.

A detective constable told the court that when each charge was put to the 48-year-old, he replied: "Nothing to say".

Mr Beech was remanded in custody to appear again by video link on June 17.

Meanwhile, police have issued a fresh appeal following the killing of a man in east Belfast.

Brian Stewart, 34, was sitting in his car at Alanbrooke Road off Montgomery Road shortly before 8am on Tuesday when he was shot dead.

Mr Stewart, who is understood to have LVF connections, was treated by an ambulance crew but died at the scene.

His killers, who are believed to be members of the UVF, made off in a silver car which was found on fire a short time later close to Lisnasharragh police station.
