NIFRS Backs Road Safety Campaign

The Northern Ireland Fire And Rescue Service (NIFRS) has backed a campaign urging motorists to "share our roads responsibly".

Giving their support for the Dept for Infrastructure and PSNI campaign, Suzanne Fleming, Area Commander, NIFRS, said: "Our Firefighters are regularly called to attend road traffic collisions to rescue people from their vehicles. During 2022 NIFRS attended 636 road traffic collisions and rescued 425 people from their vehicles. Alongside our colleagues in the other emergency services we witness the lives devastated as a result of collisions on our roads. Every death on our roads is one death too many.

"Throughout 2022 we worked alongside our statutory road safety partners, Department for Infrastructure, PSNI, Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, and our partners in the community, to help raise awareness of the key road safety messages in order to help reduce the number of road traffic collisions and the number of people killed and seriously injured as a result. We ask everyone to follow the four basic rules: slow down, pay attention, never drive having taken alcohol or drugs and always wear your seatbelt, however short your journey."
