PSNI Welcome Sentencing Of Joseph McIlvenny

Officers from the Belfast District Support team have welcomed the sentence handed down to Joseph McIlvenny at Newry Crown Court.

McIlvenny was sentenced to 20 months, half of which will be served in prison and half on licence for possession with intent to supply class A drugs and importation of class A Drugs.

In August 2021, officers from the Belfast District Support Team were engaged in a proactive operation to address drug supply in the city. With the assistance of Auto Crime Team and Air Support Unit colleagues, a vehicle being driven by McIlvenny was stopped on the A1 close to Newry. The vehicle was searched and a quantity of heroin, now understood to be worth £6,700 was located.

Superintendent Christian Bradley said: "We remain committed to tackling the illegal supply of drugs and will relentlessly pursue those who cause real harm to their own communities through the distribution and supply of these incredibly harmful substances.

"I would appeal to anyone who has information about the supply of illegal drugs, to contact police on 101."
