Appeal For Information On Violent Hijacking In Belfast

The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a violent hijacking in Belfast.

At about 8pm on Sunday 6th November a man was dragged from his car and struck on the head before his silver Volkswagen Passat was stolen on Rodney Parade.

It is understood that a woman had stopped the vehicle and asked for directions, however as the driver was speaking to the woman through the passenger window a man opened the drivers door and struck the driver on the head. He was then pulled from the car and hit again. Three people then got in the car and left the victim at the side of the road.

The silver Passat was recovered a short time later near Castleshane, County Monaghan, by An Garda Síochána. Garda also arrested a man and woman on suspicion of public order offences.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information about the incident, in particular any drivers with dash cam footage, is asked to contact police.
