£54m Paid To Survivors Of Historical Institutional Abuse
The Historical Institutional Abuse Redress scheme has paid out £54 million in compensation to survivors, with some 88% of almost 3,200 applications having been processed.
The figures were released by Mr Justice Fowler as he became President of the Redress Board.
The Board, which began issuing payments in 2020, had previously warned that it could take up to ten years to process the expected applications for compensation.
As he took up the role of President, Mr Justice Fowler said that he was "committed, where possible, to continually improving those services for which the redress board is solely accountable".
The figures were released by Mr Justice Fowler as he became President of the Redress Board.

Govt Called To Fund Compensation For Victims Of Historical Institutional Abuse
Sinn Féin is calling on the British Government to fund compensation payments to victims and survivors of historical institutional abuse in Northern Ireland. The party's leader, Michelle O'Neill, confirmed she recently discussed the issue with NI Secretary James Brokenshiire.
