Man arrested following cocaine seizure in Belfast
A man has been arrested in Belfast following the seizure of cocaine worth over £1.2 million.
The discovery, which is believed to be the biggest ever in the province, was made after a van was stopped on the M1 near the Broadway roundabout early on Thursday.
Equipment including a hydraulic press, scales and bags were also recovered during the operation.
Today's follows a police investigation into the activities of a major criminal gang over a number of months.
Detectives described the find as "extremely significant" and confirmed that other searches were continuing in connection with the find.
Security Minister, Ian Pearson welcomed news of the seizure, he said: "The confiscation of these drugs has prevented further misery in our society and ensuring that these people, who exploit the vulnerability of others, are brought to justice.
"A crucial element of course is that we counter demand as well as supply, by driving down public tolerance of organised crime."
