UTV in running for Belfast radio licence
UTV has announced today that it will be submitting an application for the proposed new Greater Belfast radio licence when it is advertised by Ofcom this July.
UTV's application team will be headed up by John Rosborough, who has more than 25 years of commercial radio experience in Northern Ireland as the former Head of Programming at Downtown and Cool FM and more recently as Station Director of CityBeat.
John McCann, Group Chief Executive, UTV said: "We see this new licence as a very exciting opportunity for UTV and I am delighted that John Rosborough has joined us to head up this application.
"As Ireland's most successful commercial broadcaster, UTV brings a wealth of broadcasting experience to this application, through our television, radio and new media interests in the UK and Ireland backed up by solid financial strength.
"Shortly we will be undertaking a major research initiative to find out what local people want from this new radio station, to ensure we can offer Northern Ireland an innovative and fresh approach to radio from a name they know and trust."
John Rosborough said: "I am delighted to join UTV in its bid to secure this new radio licence. This is a very exciting opportunity and I am looking forward to working with UTV to put together a very competitive and creative application.
"I was involved in the launch of both Downtown and Cool FM so I know exactly how exciting a prospect it is to introduce a new station here and I am really looking forward to working on this new project."
