Pensioner killed as car collides with train at crossing

An elderly woman has died following a collision between a train and a car in Co Londonderry on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at an accommodation railway crossing near Limavady shortly after 1pm.

The woman, who was in her 70's, is believed to be from the Benone area close to where the crash occurred. The dead woman had not been named on Tuesday afternoon.

None of the 34 passengers on the Derry to Coleraine train were hurt in the incident.

Train operators, Translink, confirmed that a bus service was immediately put into operation for those travelling on the train.

A full investigation has been mounted to determine the cause of the fatal collision.

Body Of Missing Woman Is Found
A body found on a beach in Co Down has been confirmed as that of missing woman Aileen Finch. Ms Finch, 68, went missing sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday. On Wednesday evening (14 January), a body was found on a beach near Ballymartin. It was later confirmed to be Ms Finch. Police have said they are not treating the death as suspicious.

Woman Found Unconscious On Co Down Road
A woman has been found unconscious on a road in County Down. The woman, aged in her 50s, was discovered on the Sheepland Road at around 4.30am on Sunday. She was taken to hospital where she is believed to be in a serious condition.

Up To 20 Involved In Fight At Ballymoney Train Station
Police are appealing for information following a fight at a Balleymoney Train Station in County Antrim. Up to 20 people were reportedly fighting on a train in the Seymour Street area at around 9.45pm on Saturday. A glass bottle was thrown and smashed and a 14-year-old boy who was injured was taken to hospital.

Renewed Appeal For Missing Man Peter Quigley
Police have issued a fresh appeal for information to trace a man who went missing four years ago. Peter Quigley from Newry is believed to have been last seen at Moira train station on 26 September 2013 at around 11am.
