Belfast to host Safer City Day
The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Martin Morgan has urged local people to attend the first ever Belfast Safer City Day exhibition at the City Hall this coming Thursday.
Organised by Belfast City Council, the Safer City Day aims to offer practical advice on making Belfast a safer place to live.
Among the attractions are tours of a fire engine, an ambulance and the Translink Child Safety bus. There will also be a number of demonstrations on fire safety, interactive websites and a hi-tech solution for reducing theft called ‘Smartwater’ which will be showcased at the exhibition.
As well as the public exhibition, a conference will follow in which three leading figures who contributed to improving community safety in Boston, USA, will outline their experiences to an invited audience.
Commenting Thursday's event, The Lord Mayor said: “One of Belfast City Council’s key priorities is to make the city a safer place and one of my stated aims when I became Lord Mayor was to take a major initiative towards achieving that goal.
“Belfast Safer City Day will make a major contribution as it will encourage individuals to think about their own personal safety as well as how to make their property and communities more secure."
Belfast Safer City Day has been organised by Belfast City Council in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, the Probation Board, the Police Service for Northern Ireland and the Belfast health and social services trusts.
