Schools Advised To Close On Day Of Queen Elizabeth II's Funeral

Schools in NI have been advised to close on the day of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral, Monday 19 September by Education Minister Michelle McIlveen.

The day has been declared a Bank Holiday across the UK and according to reports, Ms McIlveen has told schools to treat it as an "exceptional closure day".

It is understood that the Department of Education had previously advised that schools could make their own decision on remaining open or closing for the day, however, Minister McIlveen has now written to Headmasters advising them to close.

According to reports, the advice has been updated due to an expected reduction in other key services such as school transport and catering.
