Education developments to be showcased at Balmoral
The latest developments in young people’s education are to be showcased by the Department of Education at this year’s Balmoral Show.
Visitors to the stand at this year's show, which runs from May 12-14, will be able to sample a range of educational software available in schools in Northern Ireland, including Intel’s QX3 Digital Microscope which lets children view what’s under the microscope on a computer screen. They will also be able to use the interactive multi-media software for primary and post-primary pupils.
Commenting on the Department of Education’s stand, Education Minister, Barry Gardiner, said: "Thousands of people visited the Department of Education stand last year and we anticipate even higher numbers this year. This is a great opportunity for parents, pupils and teachers to find out more about the recently announced £222m schools building programme and the new arrangements for post-primary education.
"The schools building programme is the start of a whole new investment strategy designed to deliver modern facilities for children and teachers.
Back by popular demand at this year's show will be C2K, which provides information and communication technology services to schools.
A large plasma screen will also feature clips from videos produced by the Department, including an Introduction to Autism, schools building projects and Aimhigher, an initiative which encourages young people to consider going to higher education or university.
Improvement Through Self Evaluation DVDs from the Education Training Inspectorate will be showcased and footage from Cookstown Primary School’s ‘Earl Saves the World’ video, which won the National British Education Communications Technology Agency Digital Video, will be shown.

Work Begins On Education Campus
Work on clearing a former Army base at Lisanelly in Omagh, County Tyrone has begun. The 126-acre site will eventually become a new shared education campus with a total of six schools with capacity for 3,700 pupils. Phase one will see the construction of a new school for Arvalee Special School and a resource centre.
