NI Deserves Better Than Stop Gap Financial Measures - Alliance
The people of NI deserve better than stop gap financial measures, Alliance Finance Minister Andrew Muir has said as he again appealed for the DUP to stop stalling and get back to work.
Mr Muir was speaking after it was revealed that with no set budget agreed and in place, a top civil servant had been put in control of releasing funds to Ministers until an Executive could be formed.
He added: "This is yet another clear example of the damage the DUP’s current inaction is having on the people of Northern Ireland. We all deserve better.
"While this move is a necessary one, it is only a stop gap – with the longer our financial situation is allowed to limp along, the bigger implications we face down the line.
"Only a fully functioning Executive can start to relieve some of the suffering we are facing this winter. This will allow for a proper strategic, multi year budget to be put in place urgently. There is no escaping this is the only way we will move forward.
"With a massive cost of living crisis – which could see people having to choose between heating their home and feeding their families – not to mention pressures on public services and growing problems with the health service, it is long past the time the DUP can make their fall back excuses.
"Rather than work around problems, the DUP must recognise their only option is to allow an Executive to form as soon as possible. Their time is up."

QUB Questioned Over Conversion Therapy Practice
An organisation supporting the health and wellbeing of the LGBT community has said Queen's University Belfast's "regret" over the use of gay conversion therapies is "not enough". The university's involvement in the practice came to light in a report by BBC NI, which included revelations of electric shock 'treatments' being used during the 1960s.

Two Men Injured In Separate Shooting Attacks In Belfast
Two men have been seriously injured in separate shooting attacks in Belfast on Sunday, 28 January. A 41-year-old man was shot in both legs and an arm in the Divismore Park area of Ballymurphy in west Belfast. Elsewhere, a 26-year-old man was shot in the legs in the Upper Meadow Street area in north Belfast.

Invest NI Announces Jobs For Derry
Over 40 new jobs will be created by three companies in the North West which are benefiting from Invest Northern Ireland's Jobs Fund. The announcement was made by Invest NI Chief Executive Alastair Hamilton during visits to Axa Insurance, Fresh Food Kitchen and One Stop Data, all based in Londonderry.
