Customs to display seized items at Balmoral show
Customs officers are set to show off some of their more exotic 'success' stories at this year's Balmoral show which takes place next week.
Visitors to this year’s show, which runs from May 12-14, will see a menagerie of seized items such as a Bear’s head from Australia, a baboon’s head from Zimbabwe, a leopard skin coat from Russia, and a pickled baby crocodile from Somalia.
Commenting on Customs' appearance at Balmoral, Northern Ireland Regional Chairman, Jim Maclean said: "Customs officers will be talking to visitors about the rules on bringing in alcohol and tobacco and our work to combat the smuggling of drugs and even those seemingly innocent souvenirs which may be banned in the UK.
“This is also an ideal opportunity for local businesses to get all the free tax information and advice they need in one go. A prime aim of Customs is to support businesses that have recently registered, or are considering registering, for VAT. Our officers are a valuable source of information and practical advice for all firms - whether large or small, new or old, we are very willing to help businesses avoid getting into difficulties.
The Inland Revenue Business Support Team will also have staff in attendance on the final day of the show to give help and advice on a range of issues.
These will include PAYE tax, National Insurance, Tax Credits, Statutory Sick Pay, Statutory Maternity Pay and Student Loans, as well information on Self-Assessment for the newly self-employed.

Balmoral Show continues amazing success
Around 60,000 people are expected to have visited this year's annual Balmoral Show in south Belfast when it ends on Friday evening. This year's agricultural event, now into its second day, promises to be the biggest ever with numerous attractions and stands for visitors, both young and old.
