Infrastructure Minister Meets With Unite And Translink

Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd has met with representatives of Unite the Union, Translink and NI Railways to hear their views on a range of issues.

Following the meeting Minister O'Dowd said: "Since becoming Minister for Infrastructure I have been keen to engage with stakeholders and listen to as many views as possible. I was pleased today to have the opportunity to meet with Unite the Union and other public transport representatives to discuss issues of concern relevant to the public transport sector.

"Our public transport workers provide essential services to local communities across the north. However, recently some of our public transport workers have been subjected to attacks and anti-social behaviour. The frequency and severity of these incidents are a cause for concern and I wish to strongly condemn those engaging in this type of behaviour. Whilst Translink undertakes a wide range of activities to protect its staff, I was keen to discuss with Unite representatives today what more we can do to tackle these issues.

"I also had the opportunity to engage with the Union to discuss the future of public transport. The meeting today was very useful and I look forward to continued positive engagement with Unions moving forward."
