Govt Urged To Cut Cost Of Fuel
Sinn Féin has called on the government to cut the cost of fuel, following analysis by the RAC that shows Britain and the north have some of the highest petrol and diesel prices across Europe.
The party's economy spokesperson Caoimhe Archibald said: "The British government needs to cut taxes on petrol and diesel in order to help motorists who are being hammered by the rising cost of fuel.
"For months now we have been calling on the British government to act as people are weighing up whether they can even afford to go to work or lift their kids from school.
"The previous reduction of just 5p per litre which was announced by the Chancellor in March, is dwarfed by the fuel tax cuts implemented across some of European countries.
"The British government needs to act urgently to help support workers and families struggling with soaring fuel and other costs."

Gas Price Hike 'Fuels Winter Woes'
The gas supplier, Firmus Energy has ended its previously announced summer price freeze and is set to increase tariffs by over 35% from 1 October - fuelling fears over 'fuel poverty' among the most needy. It has around 8,500 customers in the greater Belfast area - compared to competitor, Phoenix Gas - that has more than 130,000.

With 50% of the cost of a litre of petrol or diesel going to the Treasury, the Government must take serious action to reduce fuel prices across the United Kingdom, DUP Treasury Spokesman Sammy Wilson has said. Mr Wilson said: "Fuel duty and VAT make up 50% of the cost of our fuel with green taxes attributing another 7%.

DUP Urges Govt To Postpone Red Diesel Rebate Proposal
The DUP has called on the Treasury to postpone a proposal to end the red diesel rebate for use in the construction industry. Making the call, Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart urged the Government to instead adopt a transitional period to allow the development of alternative fuel sources capable of powering machinery and processes within the sector.
