NI's Air Ambulance Service Celebrates Fifth Anniversary
Northern Ireland's air ambulance service has been deployed 3,000 times since it officially launched in 2017.
The Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), which operates for 12 hours every day throughout the year, is marking it’s fifth anniversary today, 22 July.
It is operated by a partnership between the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) and the Air Ambulance Northern Ireland charity.
NIAS Medical Director Dr Nigel Ruddell said: "In those five years the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance Northern Ireland charity have worked together to ensure that, on over 3,000 occasions, patients have benefited from the highest levels of clinical care provided by the doctor and paramedic team.
"Every call is received in ambulance control with NIAS paramedics dispatched to the scene but, on an average of twice a day, the charity air ambulance is tasked to the incident in support of their road ambulance colleagues.
"Today provides me with an opportunity to thank all those involved in the delivery of the service, including NIAS control staff, NIAS operational staff, the medics in the HEMS team and the pilot, without whose expertise many of these calls could not be reached."
The charity is encouraging donations to be made in support of the service at www.airambulanceni.org.

Mother And Baby Injured In Downpatrick
A mother and baby have been injured in a road accident in Downpatrick involving a horse transporter. It is thought that the empty horse transporter rolled down a hill and hit the mother and baby on Irish Street at about 14:00 this afternoon.

Ambulance Crew Involved In M1 Crash
An ambulance crew has been involved in a crash in Belfast as they were attempting to resuscitate a young baby on the M1 motorway. The crew had been flagged down on Kennedy Way to help an infant who had stopped breathing, when a lorry collided with the ambulance at 11am today. The lorry was approaching the Broadway roundabout.

Man Arrested In Connection With Death Of A 2-Year-Old Child
A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a two-year-old girl. Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended an address in Park Avenue in Dungannon on Friday 06 August, where they took the child to hospital. The child died in hospital a short time later.

Ambulance Crews Come Under Attack In Lurgan
Ambulance crews have come under attack in Lurgan . A man smashed the windscreen of an ambulance with an oxygen cylinder that he stole from the vehicle while the staff were treating a man who had been stabbed at around midnight on Friday, 03 February. The ambulance is now unavailable to use until it is repaired next week.
