Belfast to hold memorial concert for Madrid victims
The people of Belfast were today urged to show their support for the citizens of Madrid by attending a memorial concert in remembrance of those who died in the train bombings.
Belfast Lord Mayor Martin Morgan said that it was important to show that the thoughts and prayers of the people of Belfast were still with those affected by the atrocities almost two months ago.
This Friday's concert to be held in St. Anne’s Cathedral at 8pm is being organised by the Spanish Association of the Victims of Terrorism and officiating will be the Reverend Bert Tosh. The concert will feature contributions from a number of local schools and musicians.
During the concert the Lord Mayor will present the Book of Condolences opened in the wake of the March 11 bomb attacks to the Spanish Consul.
Councillor Morgan said: “The people of Belfast are only too familiar with the terrible legacy of terrorist atrocities, and it is important that we show our fellow citizens that they are not alone in their time of suffering.
"This memorial concert affords an opportunity for us to come together with the Spanish community here in Northern Ireland in solidarity and support,” said Councillor Morgan.
Over 200 men, women and children were killed on March 11 after a number of bombs exploded on a train and at rail stations during the morning rush hour.
Terrorist group Al-Qaida later claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Tickets Go Free For MTV Outdoor Concert
Belfast City Council is to release free tickets to a huge outdoor concert at the City Hall as part of the MTV EMAs next month. Northern Ireland's Snow Patrol will appear on stage along with US singer-songwriter Jason Derulo and US rock trio Boyce Avenue, all playing to some 15,000 people on Sunday, November 6th.

Ulster-Scots band the Hounds of Ulster are set to perform their unique musical experience this weekend in Newtownabbey. The show will also feature performances from the Ulster Scots Experience, East Antrim School of Traditional Music, Dunloy Accordion, Highland dancers, pipers and of course the Hounds of Ulster themselves.
