Security Alert In Co Fermanagh Declared A Hoax
A security alert in County Fermanagh has been declared a hoax.
Police and Ammunition Technical Officers were called to the Lettergreen Road/Moorlough Road area of Newtowbutler following the discovery of a suspicious object.
The road has since reopened.
Detective Inspector Michael Winters said: "As part of our investigation, we are keen to speak with anyone who was in the area and may have noticed any suspicious or untoward activity on the afternoon of Wednesday July 13th. To help assist with our enquiries, we would ask anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage taken from the area between this time frame to contact police.
"We would like to thank the local community for their patience during this time."Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information about the incident or who may be able to help with the investigation, is asked to call police at on the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference number 1059 13/07/22."
DUP Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Deborah Erskine said: "The good people of this area do not deserve to be subject to fear and worry as a result of mindless individuals intent on doing all that they can to destroy, what should be a peaceful society.
"Those who wake up with such disruption on their mind are only serving to inconvenience their neighbours and place lives and livelihoods at risk. Raising community tensions and creating disruption serves only to feed some sick violent fantasy and mindset of people stuck in the past.
"I'm thinking of those living in the area and the Police dealing with the incident. I thank the PSNI for their quick action. If this is a viable or elaborate hoax, then those responsible must face the full force of the law."
