Castlewellan is scene of two separate security alerts
A Co Down town was at the centre of two security operations today following a petrol bomb attack on a school and a suspect device found at a republican memorial.
In the first alert a petrol bomb was thrown at St Malachy's High School in Castlewellan early this morning.
No one was injured in the attack, however an English exam was disrupted as many pupils were unable to reach the school on time because of the security operation.
The school's Principal Nuala Cunningham described the situation as "unacceptable".
"There are 970 pupils at this school who have had their education disrupted," she said. "I am absolutely heartbroken that anybody would compromise the youth of Northern Ireland like this."
Not long afterward part of the town was cordoned off and traffic was diverted from the area after a suspicious device was found near a republican memorial in Lower Square.
Army bomb experts were called in and a controlled explosion was carried out on the device which was later declared a hoax.

Heavy Snow Closes Over 80 Schools
Over 80 schools across Northern Ireland have been closed as the heavy snow continues to cause disruption on Tuesday morning. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, as the snow is continuing to affect many roads. Areas which have been majorly disrupted include Lisburn, Castlereagh and Carryduff.

Newry Road Reopens Following Security Alert
A road in Newry has reopened after a "crude device" sparked a security alert. The device was found on the Commons School Road yesterday morning, 12 February. A few nearby roads were closed following the alert. They have since reopened to the public. Commons School Road remains closed for pre-planned resurfacing.

North Belfast School Damaged In Petrol Bomb Attack
A north Belfast school has suffered extensive smoke damage in a petrol bomb attack. The fire occurred at Saint Patrick's College Bearnageeha, on the Antrim Road. Police and the fire service arrived at the school at around 6.00am on Thursday, to find the fire had already burnt itself out.

Loyalists blamed for petrol bomb attack on school
Loyalists are being blamed for a petrol bomb attack on a Catholic school in Ballymena last night. Fire crews were called to Saint Louis Primary School on the Cullybackey Road at about 11pm on Tuesday after a window was broken and liquid poured in and set alight. One classroom was destroyed and ten others sustained smoke damage.
