26-Year-Old Jailed For 10 Years For Sexual Offences Against Children

The PSNI have welcomed a 10 year sentence handed down to Joshua Olphert at Coleraine Crown Court for a number of serious sexual offences against children.

The 26-year-old from L'Derry was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period and will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for 10 years.

Welcoming the sentence, Detective Sergeant Emerson said: "The offences committed by Joshua Olphert are sickening. No child should ever have to suffer and have their innocence taken away from them in this horrific way.

"While these actions can never be undone, I hope the lengthy sentence provides some degree of comfort and allows the victims and their family to have space to find closure on an awful period in their lives and move forward to more positive times.

"Officers in the Police Service of Northern Ireland remain committed to investigating all reports of sexual offences against children and young people. We will seek to place offenders before the courts so they can be made amenable for their crimes.

"I would continue to encourage anyone who has experienced any form of sexual abuse to contact police on 101, or in an emergency call 999."
