Appeal For Information On Armed Robbery In East Belfast
PSNI Detectives in East Belfast have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following an armed robbery which took place on the Belmont Road on Saturday June 11th.
Making the appeal, Detective Sergeant McVeagh said: “Police received a report just after 5pm that a man had entered a shop holding a large kitchen knife in his right hand. The suspect then proceeded to take cash from two tills. The suspect then left the shop holding a large plastic bag filled with a quantity of cigarettes.
“Two members of staff who were working at the time the incident took place were left shaken by their ordeal.
“The suspect is described as being of heavy build, he was wearing a dark coloured hooded top, yellow gloves and dark shorts with three stripes down the side.
“Our investigation is now underway and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area or who may have noticed any suspicious activity at the time the incident took place to contact 101 quoting reference number 1275 11/06/22.”

Marriage increase in Northern Ireland
Latest figures have revealed that there has been an increase in the number of marriages in Northern Ireland. The number for 2006 was just 8,300, a small increase on the 8,100 marriages registered in 2005, the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) said. This is a significant increase on the recent low of 7,300 registered in 2001.

PSNI Welcomes Sentencing Of Paul Beggs
The PSNI have welcomed the sentence handed down to Paul Beggs today, Thursday 10 November, at Newry Crown Court. Beggs, aged 31, was sentenced to a total of 8 ½ years, half to be served in custody and half on licence, having previously pleaded guilty to offences, including arson, possession of a firearm, robbery and false imprisonment.

Crumlin Hairdressers Damaged In Shooting
An investigation has been launched after shots were fired at a local business in Crumlin. The incident took place at around 1.40am this morning, 26 November, at a hairdressers shop on Main Street. A number of shots were fired through the front window of the shop, but no injuries were reported.

Last year nearly 30,000 domestic motivated incidents took place in Northern Ireland, with around five people each year killed by a partner, ex-partner or close family member, according to the Department of Justice (DoJ). The figures were revealed by the department at the launch of a new consultation on Domestic Homicide Reviews.
