Police Attacked During Search Operation In L'Derry

Police have come under attack in L'Derry while attempting to carry out search operations.

Officers from the Paramilitary Crime Task Force were carrying out simultaneous searches at houses in L'Derry and Strabane, as part of an operation targeting the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA).

Two police vehicles were badly damaged with stones, masonry and fireworks were thrown at vehicles in Brookdale Park, in the Galliagh area. However there were no reports of any officers being injured.

During the search operation, a 40-year-old man was arrested under the Terrorism Act by police and remains in custody.

Funeral for dinghy tragedy teenager
A Coleraine teenager, who drowned off the coast of Castlerock, is to be buried today. Robert McMullan, 15, died when the dinghy he was in with a friend got into difficulties and capsized on Tuesday. He was airlifted to hospital, but died later. His friend managed to swim to shore and raised the alarm.

Man arrested over Belfast cannabis find
Following a planned search operation in south Belfast yesterday, officers seized around 14 cannabis plants and a quantity of paraphernalia associated with drugs. One man was arrested following the raid at the property in the Stranmillis Wharf area of the city, however was later released pending a report.

Cigarettes, Tobacco And Cash Seized
Police and customs officers have seized more than 13,000 cigarettes and five kilos of hand-rolling tobacco. The seizures were made during the course of a major search operation of 11 properties in north and west Belfast. Officers also seized £6,000 in cash under the proceeds of the crime act.

Appeal Issued For Volunteers For New Search For Dean Mcilwaine
An appeal has been made for volunteers to search Cave Hill in Belfast for missing Newtownabbey man, Dean Mcilwaine. Mr Mcilwaine has been missing since Thursday 13 July. A previous search was carried out in Belfast city centre, but a new search operation is planned for the Belfast country park on Saturday 22 July.
